Picker is sold to General Electric Co. Ltd. of England (GEC). Picker merged with Cambridge Instruments, GEC Medical, and American Optical to form Picker International.

On October 19, 2001, Philips Medical Systems completed a 3-year acquisition strategy through its purchase of Marconi Medical Systems. Marconi Medical Systems offered leading multislice CT, MRI, and Nuclear Gamma Camera systems to medical institutions around the world. As well as new 3.0T developments, Philips is also in collaboration with researchers at the University of Nottingham, with the intention of developing an ultrahigh field strength clinical 7.0T whole body MR system.

Founded in 1969, Elscint is headquartered in Haifa, Israel. Elscint developed advanced computerized imaging systems in Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging ( MRI), Nuclear Medicine (NM) and Mammography (MAM) for international markets.
In November 1998, General Electric Medical Systems (GEMS) acquired the Nuclear Medicine and MRI divisions of Elscint, including an unique MRI gradient system concept and technology (twin gradient system).
Elscint Ltd. signs definitive agreement to sell its Nuclear Medicine and Magnetic Resonance Imaging Businesses for $100 Million. Elscint's shareholders approved the sale of its NM, and MRI division to GE (now GE Healthcare). Picker International acquires the Computed Tomography Division of Elscint Ltd. in the same year. MSK-Extreme™ MRI system is a dedicated high field extremity imaging device, designed to provide orthopedic surgeons and other physicians with detailed diagnostic images of the foot, ankle, knee, hand, wrist and elbow, all with the clinical confidence and advantages derived from high field, whole body MRI units. The light weight (less than 650 kg) of the OrthOne System performs rapid patient studies, is easy to operate, has a patient friendly open environment and can be installed in a practice office or hospital, all at a cost similar to a low field extremity machine.
New features include a more powerful operating system that offers increased scan speed as well as a 160-mm knee coil with higher signal to noise ratio, and the option of a CD burner.
