Fast Spin Echo Optimization

FSE optimization runs a preliminary TR period at the central slice and compares the phase of each echo in the echo train. If the phases do not compliment each other the RF is recalibrated and then the entire sequence is run. If there is an error in calibrating the phases of each of the echoes artifacts will appear.

Inversion Recovery Spin Echo

(IRSE) Form of inversion recovery imaging in which the signal is detected as a spin echo. For TE short compared to the T2 relaxation time, there will be only a small effect of T2 differences on image intensities; for longer TE's, the effect of T2 may be significant.

(PSSE) Partial saturation sequence in which the signal is detected as a spin echo. Even though a spin echo is used, there will not necessarily be a significant contribution of the T2 relaxation time to image contrast, unless the echo time, TE, is on the order of or longer than T2.

Spin Lattice Relaxation Time

(T1) The spin lattice relaxation time (also called longitudinal relaxation time and T1 Time) is a spin property, whereby the value changes between different tissues. By the spin lattice relaxation process, the longitudinal magnetization Mz achieve the equilibrium value Mz0. The T1 time constant is an exponential approach toward Mz0.
The equation for the magnetization at a time t will be (if at t=0 the longitudinal magnetization is Mz0):
Mz(t) = M0+(Mz (0) - Mz0) exp(t/T1)
