How do you measure SNR?
I know this is a basic question but how do you measure SNR?

This page:
http://dnl.ucsf.edu/users/dweber/dweber_docs/mri_quality.html

tells me to measure an as small as possible ROI for the signal mean and as large as possible ROI for the standard deviation.

But I have a book called "MRI from picture to proton": This says that the standard deviation of the noise (Sn) can be measured using the mean or standard deviation (sd) of a background region. Then you can use the relationship:

Mean = 1.25 Sn
sd = 0.66 Sn

to find Sn. But where do the values 1.25 and 0.66 come from?

It also says that the measured mean of the signal ROI is related to the MR signal instensity (S) using:

Mean = sqrt(S^2 + Sn^2)

But why do they add up quadratically?

Proton Density and FOV
I dont see any reason ,why one should have problem with large FOV Proton Density images, technically i dont think there is any such restriction.

what is the exact problem you facing with large FOV PD images?

Proton Density and FOV
Proton Density is often used for musculoskeletal exams with small FOVs. I know no reason why it should not work with a large FOV.
I use PD with fat suppression also for both hips with a FOV of 380 and it works.

fluid PD vs T2 weighting
Can anyone explain me, why - considering SE sequences with the same TR - fluid in a PD weighting (short TE) should have less signal than in a T2 weighting (long TE)? eg:
Fig 10, p 1397; radiographics resident tutorial: contrast mechanisms in spin echo MR imaging; Radiographics 1994; 14; pp 1389-1404

I would expect that the signal intensity of any tissue (regardless of it Proton density of T2-relaxation time) should decrease with increasing echo time.
