ETL for a STIR
I prefer a range from 5-12 (but using shorter TE and TR). High echo trains can lead to blurring, image noise and contrast inhomogeneities.
Parallel imaging can reduce the longer scan time of low ETLs; also often 1 NSA is enough for sufficient SNR.

Hope this helps!

A more expensive solution is the anti-noise system.

Protection Against Noise
I usually place 2 pieces of sponge on the outside of the ear and tape them so they stay in place. It's not as effective as earplugs or headphones but it dampens the noise so the baby does not get full effect.

Examinations of children
Earplugs and headphones are essential because children are often afraid of loud noises. With mirrors the look out of the system is possible and they can see their parents. Talk often with the child. If the children are tired and not hungry it is the best time for an examination especially at very small children.
