Feridex/endorem and bone MRI
Some experiments with superparamagnetic contrast agents such as Feridex/Endorem with labeled cells showed a black appearance on T2 weighted sequences, which was easy to see. The less dominant T1 effect, bright on T1 weighted images was more subtle. (I found this also interesting http://www.nature.com/nm/journal/v7/n11/full/nm1101-1241.html and the article 'MR and iron magnetic nanoparticles. Imaging opportunities in preclinical and translational research' on http://www.tumorionline.it/cerca.php )

Hitachi Echelon
Hello, Just wondering if anyone has a 16 channel Hitachi Echelon and how the images were looking.
Thanks, Keith

New type of job for CT/MR Tech.
I've done lots of reconstruction work with Vitrea and the Siemens Leonardo workstation. My impression is that being a good reconstructive tech takes technical know how but your product (images)are heavily influenced by your creativity. Thouroughput is greatly improved with sufficient software knowlege too.

Being quick and skilled at 3D recon does take time and experience. Can you do it, yes.

I'd be really careful about jumping into a serious job and being thrown like 40 cases a day or something like that. If they are willing to work with you than it's good oportunity.

Gradient modes
Does changing the gradient mode from "fast" to "whisper" have an effect on the image quality? I just did a PD FS on a knee and compared two sequences that were exactly the same except for one was "fast" and the other was "whisper", which also changed the TR and TE very slightly (TR from 1970 - 2100 and TE from 29 - 31). The whisper sequence was noticeably lower quality and I can't figure out why.

Which MRI machine to buy?
Hi Mike,

Is this your first MRI scanner purchase? I would recommend GE over Hitachi because it is more universal and it will be easier (and less expensive) to get service and refurbished parts. When you say high field do you mean 3.0? Since those are so costly, a 1.5T will give you the best value. That's what we currently use and with the right coils we obtain high quality images.

Hope that helps,
Sandra
