Hello, I have been having extreme eye pain with visual disturbances which include flashes of light and sometimes double vision. I was told that my brain MRI was squeaky clean. However, out of curiosity, I looked at the images and found this one image that didn't sit right with me. I know it could mean nothing, but I was hoping to either get an answer or reassurance that everything really is ok. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help.

(I'm not a professional user of MRI, just someone who has recently had an MRI scan and is puzzled at the result. I hope it's still OK to post here).rnrnSeveral months ago I received a violent blow to the side of my head, and ever since, I have been totally deaf in the ear on that side. Even worse, instead of hearing anything in that ear, I'm getting a constant really loud whistling sound in that ear. As you can imagine, this is causing me a great amount of distress.rnrnI was given a CT scan which showed nothing, so then I was given an MRI scan, and I recently got the result. To my great surprise (and dismay) the letter i got from the specialist said that the scan showed that 'everything was perfectly normal'. My first reaction was to phone him and ask just how I could be totally deaf in one ear if the scan showed everything was normal, but I live in the UK, and you're not even allowed to approach a specialist directly - you have to get your doctor to do this for you. In view of how overstretched our health service is here, it could be months before I can get any answers.rnrnThis is why I'm posting here. I don't know anything about MRI scanners and all the Internet searches I've done just come up with answers to things like 'are they safe?' and 'how noisy are they?'rnrnSo can anyone tell me how an MRI scan can show there's nothing wrong with me when I'm totally deaf in an ear that had nothing wrong with it before that blow to the head?rnrnAny answers will be very gratefully received.

I know this is a really old question but I'm answering so that maybe others might learn.
The scanner you refer to is actually the E Scan (or possibly the E Scan XQ or the E Scan Opera) by Esaote.
You are correct, the flex coil for hips does not give good coverage or good signal. Most of our E Scan customers never use the coil.
A larger problem for hip studies is that the opening in the magnet and the FOV of the magnet severely limits the ability to scan patients of average and larger than average size.
the same can be said of doing shoulder exams on this scanner, in general the images are not met with happiness by the radiologists.

Looks more like a Zipper artifact. Can be caused by electronic noise. Switch off all light bulbs, remove all electronic equipment from the scanner room, make sure that the door is really closed (clean the contacts between door and jam if necessary) and try again. If the artifact consists control the penetration panel where the cables enter the room and the faraday cage, it is possible that there is a leak in the RF shield. If the artifact remains with all coils and sequences you need the service to repair the problem.

Always existed artifact made us crazy, is this a kind of zebra artifact or something? the line are in the phase encoding direction, really confusing.
