Short name: Mn-DPDP
This MRI contrast agent is a chelate complex of the paramagnetic metal ion manganese (Mn) and fodipir. Mn-DPDP (Teslascan) shortens the longitudinal relaxation time and is used for the T1 weighted enhancement of MR images. Mangafodipir trisodium accumulates after intravenous injection in the healthy tissue of the liver and improves the detection, localization, characterization, and evaluation of lesions of the liver, pancreas, but can also be used in cardiac MRI.

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted marketing clearance 1997, to Nycomed Amersham's MRI contrast medium. Nycomed/Amersham, now GE Healthcare markets the product under the trade name Teslascan®.

(PROPELLER) The PROPELLER MRI technique reduces the sensitivity to various sources of image artifacts (e.g., motion artifact, field inhomogeneity artifact, eddy current artifact). PROPELLER can be used with gradient echo and turbo spin echo sequences in a wide range of applications to improve the image quality, for example cardiac MRI, brain MRI, and pediatric examinations.

Quick Overview
Please note that there are different common names for this artifact.
Artifact Information
NAME
Phase encoded motion, motion, phase effect
DESCRIPTION
Blurring and ghosting
REASON
Movement of the imaged object
HELP
Compensation techniques, more averages, anti spasmodic, presaturation
This artifact is caused by movements of the patient or organic processes taking place in the body of the patient. The artifact appears as bright noise, repeating densities or ghosting in the phase encoding direction.

Image Guidance
There are different solutions for reduction of phase encoded motion artifacts.
Cardiac and respiratory gating, breath holding, sedation of the patient, presaturation pulses for flow artifacts (e.g. arterial pulsation, breathing), fast imaging sequences, etc.

SPEEDER™

SPEEDER™ is Toshiba's patented parallel imaging technology for high-speed imaging. This technique reduces examination time for MRI studies by a factor of up to three while enabling clinicians to capture high-quality images with detailed diagnostic information. With SPEEDER™, cardiac and MRA examinations are more patient-friendly and tolerable with shorter scan times and improved image quality.

Segmented K-Space Data Acquisition

A set of k-space lines collected in a specified order but not constituting a complete coverage of k-space, thus can be used in conjunction with all ultrafast MRI techniques. Several segmental acquisitions may need to be run for complete coverage of k-space. If these lines are recorded for a single rather than multiple images, imaging time can be shortened considerably maintaining an acceptable temporal resolution.
For example, rapidly acquiring eight k-space lines per segment after each trigger until 128 lines of k-space are acquired in 16 triggers, thus makes image acquisition of multiple cardiac phases or anatomical slices possible in a breath-hold.
