Patient movement during the scans are often an imaging problem. Artifacts from patient movement are widely varied due to a dependence when during k-space filling the motion occurs. When the patient moving causes only in the last few seconds of the scan at that time the outside edges of K-space were being filled, and as a result the artifact does not overly affect the image (there are only fine lines).

A good cooperation between the patient and the operator is the best way to avoid these artifacts, in difficult cases a sedative may help. If a compliance of the patient is not possible (e.g. pain, stroke, or consciousness), choose fast scan methods like gradient echo or single shot technique.

With this magnetic resonance angiography technique flowing blood appears dark.
MR black blood techniques have been developed for cardiovascular imaging to improve segmentation of myocardium from the blood pool. Black blood MRA techniques decrease the signal from blood with reference to the myocardium and make it easier to perform cardiac chamber segmentation.
ECG gated spin echo sequences with presaturation pulses for magnetization preparation will show strong intravascular signal loss due to flow effects when appropriate imaging conditions including spatial presaturation are used. The sequence use the flow void effect as blood passes rapidly through the selected slice.
For dark blood preparation, a pair of nonselective and selective 180° inversion pulses are used, followed by a long inversion time to null signal from inflowing blood. A second selective inversion pulse can also be applied with short inversion time to null the fat signal. These in cardiac imaging used black blood techniques are referred to as double inversion recovery T1 measurement turbo spin echo or fast spin echo, and double-inversion recovery STIR.

Bolus Injection
 
A bolus is a rapid infusion of high dose contrast agent. Dynamic and accumulation phase imaging can be performed after bolus injection. Since the transit time of the bolus through the tissue is only a few seconds, high temporal resolution imaging can be required to obtain sequential images during the wash in and wash out of the contrast material and, therefore, resolve the first pass of the tracer.
For the same injected dose of contrast agent the injection rate (and, consequently, the total injected volume) modifies the bolus peak profile. Increasing the injection rate produces a sharpening of the peak (Cmax increase, Tmax decrease, peak length decrease). At a low injection rate, the first pass presents a plateau form. Substantial changes in the gadolinium concentrations during signal acquisition induce artifacts. Furthermore, the haemodynamic parameters (cardiac output, blood pressure) influence the bolus profile. The characteristics of gadolinium agents are favorable in the early bolus phase, whereas the advantages of large complexes (e.g. blood pool agents) and ultrasmall superparamagnetic iron oxide (USPIO) are most evident in the distribution phase.

Contrast Enhanced Timing Robust Angiography
 
(CENTRA) A special form of k-space acquisition especially for contrast enhanced MRA. Longer scan times for high image resolution is possible, without a venous overlay, because the vast majority of contrast information is acquired only in the first seconds, the remaining scan time is used for resolution.

An artifact on a MR image can appear when data read off an optical disc became corrupted. There two effects can be seen.
Firstly, Bands where the intensity has been incorrectly interpreted or secondly areas, where the horizontal position of the pixels has been incorrectly displayed. It is important to be able to differentiate between artifacts caused during a MRI scan, from those caused by the associated hardware of an imaging system.
