Dotarem / [ Artirem® ] A paramagnetic MRI contrast agent for intravenous use. This agent is used as a routine clinical tool to reveal anatomical details in vivo and to detect lesions for diagnosis.

Short name: Gd-HP-DO3A, generic name: Gadoteridol injection, chemical compound: Gd-1,4,7-tris(carbonylmethyl)-10-(2'-hydroxypropyl)-1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane
(ProHance®) A nonionic MRI contrast agent with a low molecular weight complex of gadolinium (macrocyclic chelate, which tightly binds the Gd atom).
Gadoteridol does not cross the blood brain barrier. If the barrier is damaged, gadoteridol will penetrate into lesions such as tumors. It also highlights areas of increased vascularity so it has been used to improve the delimitation of lesions elsewhere in the body.
Apart from its paramagnetic effects, gadoteridol has no pharmacological activity in the body. After intravenous injection, most of the dose is excreted unchanged in the urine within 24 hours.

Short name: Gd-DTPA-BMEA, generic name: Gadoversetamide
A paramagnetic extracellular MRI contrast agent with positive enhancement. When placed in a magnetic field, gadoversetamide decreases T1 and T2 relaxation times in tissues where it accumulates. At the recommended dose, the effect is primarily on T1 relaxation time, and produces an increase in signal intensity (brightness).

GastroMARK® belongs to the negative oral contrast agents (same as Lumirem®, another brand name for ferumoxsil). GastroMARK® is used to distinguish the loops of the bowel from other abdominal structures and physiology. When GastroMARK® is ingested, it flows through and darkens the stomach and the small intestine in 30 to 45 minutes. By more clearly identifying the intestinal loops, GastroMARK® improves visualization of adjacent abdominal tissues such as the pancreas.

Short name:(Gd-DTPA)n-dextran, central moiety: Gd2+
Gd-DTPA labeled dextran is a substance that has been tested as a blood pool agent (intravascular MRI contrast agent). Dextran is a polysaccharide and has labeled with 15 Gd-DTPA moieties a higher T1 relaxivity than unbound Gd-DTPA, compared with a high safety level.
