Laser Induced Thermo TherapyMRI Resource Directory:
 - MR Guided Interventions -

(LITT) Laser induced thermo therapy is a therapeutically destruction of tumor or metastasis tissue with a thermolaser. Malignant tissue reacts very sensitive to heat. The heating of the malignant tissue results in a degeneration or coagulation and the death of the malignant cells by temperatures from 45 Ā°C to 99 Ā°C.
Induced thermal damage can be variable and unpredictable due to thermally induced changes in tissue thermal and blood perfusion. The affection can be controlled by thermo sensitive MRI sequences. The temperature can be monitored during the procedure and MR imaging following the procedure shows how effectively the tumor is damaged.

MR Contrast Delivery System

A power injector for controlled delivery of contrast media into the body for image enhancement during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures, which one is non-magnetic and MR safe. That means it performs its intended function without performance degradation, and that it does not adversely affect the function of the MR scanner.

Adverse Reaction

Any abnormal reaction of a patient to an examination or procedure, like for example claustrophobia or side effects of MRI contrast agents.
A claustrophobic attack is MRI scanner dependent and more rare with an open MRI. An adverse reaction with magnetic resonance imaging contrast medium is very infrequent. In general, adverse reactions increase with the quantity of contrast media (usual dose of paramagnetic contrast agents is 0.1 mmol/kg) and also with the osmolarity of the compound.
Most frequently encountered adverse reactions are heat sensation, dizziness, nausea, hypotension due to vasodilatation, which can progress to hypotensive shock and anaphylactic reactions.
